However, Emirati Women’s Day is celebrated annually on 28 August in UAE with a unique theme each year. The choice of 28 August as the date coincides with the founding of the UAE’s General Women’s Union, which launched in 1975, on 28 August.

In 1975, the United Nations declared March 8 as International Women’s Day. However, this day was celebrated for the first time in the United States and European countries in March 1911.

In 1908, female garment workers walked the streets of New York City to fight for better wages, shorter working hours and the right to vote. This became a basic idea for International Women’s Day. The struggle was led by the Socialist Party of America.
