Go back in time at Sheikh Saeed Al Maktoum House

The original building dates back to 1896 and was expanded and renovated several times to get it to its current magnificence. HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, was born here in 1949 and spent the first decade of his life in this Bur Dubai residence.

Featuring three courtyards surrounded by 30 rooms and flanked by four wind towers, its architecture dates back to the 19th century and is characterised by vaulted high-beam ceilings, sculpted window overhangs and arched doorways.

Visitors can take a peek behind ornamented teak doors, study coins, stamps and documents dating as far back as 1971, and appreciate views across Dubai creek from the upstairs majlis. Afterwards, stop by the Perfume House, also in the Al Shindaga Museum complex, and discover the story behind Emirati Fragrances.
